Conference Description

The purpose of this conference is to equip
the learner with the knowledge to provide
high level and evidence-based, developmentally
supportive care to infants and families
in Newborn Intensive Care Units (NICU).

Target Audience

Nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists,
speech-language pathologists, psychologists, and early intervention developmental therapists.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this educational program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe comprehensive approaches to developmentally supportive care.
  • Identify environmental factors that support families and ways to prepare for the infant’s transition home.
  • Discuss cues and critical indicators of feeding readiness and needs for breaks.
  • Analyze specific infant behaviors and suggest options for responding.
  • Describe elements of relationship-based care.
  • Discuss supportive care of the infant with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, their family and the staff.
  • Discuss ways to advance developmentally supportive care into practice and NICUs.
