NIDCAP, originated in 1984 by Heidelise Als, PhD, is the only comprehensive, family centered, evidence-based approach to developmental care for newborn and infant intensive care nurseries.

Infants are considered individuals, persons, collaborators in care, supported and nurtured by their parents
Parents are considered infants’ key nurturers, advocates and caregivers as well as collaborators in care decisions
Healthcare Professionals are partners in care with infants, parents and family members

The NIDCAP Federation International, Inc. (NFI)

The NFI is a membership and educational certifying organization. Incorporated in Massachusetts, United States, the NFI holds the legal designation of a 501 (c) 3, as a charitable corporation.
